Selecting a Major and Minor

Choosing a major and minor is a significant milestone in your journey at the Grey School of Wizardry. When an apprentice reaches Year 2, they gain the ability to select a major. The guide below will provide you with detailed instructions to navigate the process smoothly, ensuring you make informed and thoughtful decisions about your academic path.

Prerequisites
  • Year 2 Requirement: Apprentices must be in Year (or Level) 2 to select a major and minor. Ensure you have reached this level before attempting to choose your major or minor.

Steps to Select a Major and Minor
  1. Accessing the Selection Page

    • Navigate to Your Grimoire: Start by logging into your Grimoire. This is your central hub for all academic activities and resources.

    • Click on the "Select Major" Button: Once you are in your Grimoire, locate and click on the "Select Major" button. This action will direct you to the Major/Minor Selection page, where you can explore the available options.

  2. Navigating the Major/Minor Selection Page

    • Department Tabs: The Major/Minor Selection page is organized with tabs for different departments. Each tab represents a department, such as Wizardry, Divination, or Dark Arts. Click on a department tab to reveal the majors and minors offered within that department.

  3. Previewing Major/Minor Requirements

    • Viewing Classes: After selecting a department tab, click on a specific major or minor to see a detailed list of the required classes. These classes will be displayed at the bottom of the screen, organized by academic year. This feature allows you to see the course progression and understand the commitment required for each major or minor.

    • Close Preview: If you want to explore other majors or minors, click the "Back" button to close the current preview and return to the department selection. This functionality helps you compare different academic paths before making a decision.

  4. Confirming Your Selection

    • Confirm Button: Once you have reviewed the requirements and decided on a major (and minor if desired), click the "Confirm" button under the preview. This action will finalize your selection and update the top text to reflect your chosen major and minor. Confirming ensures that your preferences are recorded accurately in the system.

  5. Reviewing Your Selection

    • Show Preview Button: Click the "Show Preview" button at the top of the screen to review the class requirements for your selected major and minor. This preview not only displays the required courses but also highlights any classes you have already completed that count toward your major or minor. It’s a useful tool for tracking your progress and planning your future courses.

  6. Saving Your Selection

    • Save Selection Button: When you are satisfied with your choices, click the "Save Selection" button at the top of the page. This will officially record your major and minor selections and redirect you to your Academic Progress page. On this page, you can see your selections integrated into your overall academic plan.

    • No Penalty for Changes: Remember, majors and minors can be changed at any time without penalty. If you find that your interests or goals have shifted, you can revisit the Major/Minor Selection page to update your choices. Detailed Example: An apprentice interested in Divination would start by clicking on the "Divination" department tab. This action reveals the majors and minors available in the Divination department, such as "Generalist Divination Major" and "Tarot Divination Minor."

Clicking on "Generalist Divination Major" will populate a list of required classes at the bottom of the screen. The list is organized by academic year, showing a clear path from Year 2 through Year 7. If the apprentice decides this major is right for them, they can click the "Confirm" button to finalize their choice.

To review their selection, the apprentice can use the "Show Preview" button to see an overview of the classes required for their major and minor, along with any courses they have already completed that fulfill these requirements. Once satisfied, the apprentice clicks the "Save Selection" button, which saves their choices and redirects them to the Academic Progress page.
